Thursday, July 29th, 2010The American Opportunity tax credit created last year can qualify you for up to $2,500 in credits on your tax return for the first four years of post-secondary education. Also, qualified expenses now include course materials for the American Opportunity tax credit besides tuition and fees. The lifetime learning credit is available for students after the first four years of post-secondary education, but is not as generous. Income phase-outs are applicable to both credits.
